Sax-Zim Bog
The Boreal Chickadee normally lives in northern Canada, but during the winter months, will migrate to the northern parts of the United States. This little bird was photographed in northern Minnesota about an hour north west of Duluth, Minnesota in January 2015
This type of woodpecker always seems to be around and they are very fun to watch hunt for insects. Very similar to the Hairy Woodpecker, the biggest differences being a smaller beak and smaller overall size
Another second, And like that... he's gone.
These are great little finches! We worked our way around the outside of the Visitor Center and were able to stop less than 20 feet from the brush that the birds where using to queue up to the feeders. At the Sax-Zim Bog Visitor Center.

Very quiet and stealthy fliers are these Grey Jays. They will eat seeds/peanut butter and then mix it with their saliva and store the food for later when there isn't food available. I photographed this bird in January 2015 near Cloquet, Minnesota
The little birds I was photographing would arrive every 45 minutes or so and would sit still for no more than a few seconds between stops at the feeders and once they got a seed or two, would quickly disappear for another 45 minutes.

This woodpecker is very similar to the Downey Woodpecker in looks, but is much larger than it's cousin. The female doesn't have the distinctive red patch at the back of the head. I photographed this bird in January 2015 in the Sax-Zim bog in Northern Minnesota
The Boreal Chickadee is similarly sized to the much more common Black Capped Chickadee and people always worry that they won't be able to tell them apart, until they see one!
I drove to Northern Minnesota to see this bird that I'd never heard of before and during the next summer, I find out that quite a few flock to my brother's house in Stillwater every winter... Taken February 2015, near Meadowlands, Minnesota at the Sax-Zim Bog Visitor Center
